An auxiliary performance controller, sometimes provided as an alternative to a pitch wheel or other control device. A ribbon controller consists of a conductive ribbon, generally about 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide from 6 to 24 inches (15 to 60 cm) long, with a smooth insulating top layer. It produces a control signal which is proportional to where the ribbon is touched, and the smooth surface allows the player to slide a finger back and forth to produce continuous changes.
