The Dimel-class Assault Ship is an older design that dates from the early years of the CSA. The CSA picket fleet originally used them to transport ESPOs to subdue rioters, transport cargo, enforce its laws, and to land troops in combat operations. The Dimel was subsequently replaced by the CSA with the much cheaper Etti-class Light freigther and its picket ship variant. Nevertheless, the Dimel still sees service in the private sector as an armed transport and as a light warship by various planetary governments and criminal elements. Many of these ships have been upgraded, and the most famous Dimel to date has been the slaver ship the Eye of Shiblizar.

abstract
  • The Dimel-class Assault Ship is an older design that dates from the early years of the CSA. Roughly the size and contemporary of the better-known Gallofree Medium Transport, the Dimel is a sturdy, yet fast starship that excels in atmospheric conditions where its streamlining and bullet-like shape makes it unusually fast and maneuverable for its size. Like the Gallofree, most of its hull is dedicated to carrying cargo or passengers, and consequently the actual hull is normally empty space. Unfortunately for the Dimel, now obsolete militarily, it has been a poor competitor on the civilian market compared to most freighters of similar size. Aside from the purchase price, the ship requires more crew than most ships and carries less cargo, and tends to attract more law enforcement attention to itself with its reasonable armament and high performance. The main legitimate employers of the craft tend to be merchants running cargos in contested space or in less tame sectors of the galaxy.
