Between the years of 1850 and 1899 the pier installed a few restaurants (GLAMOURIZED FISH & CHIP SHOPS) and a arcade containing 250 identical machines of 'are you smarter than a 10 year old?' In a vain attempt to stop him winning the beat a rival of the owner attempted to burn down the pier in 1945 but accidentally burnt down the West Pier after asking a cat for directions.
