The Asakura Clan (朝倉一族, Asakura Ichizoku) or the Asakura Family are one of the eight noble clans of Uzu no Kuni. They are a clan of civilian nobles with no known shinobi produced. It was mentioned that they have some samurai ancestry and continue to employ the latter as their main form of protection. Its leaders have traditionally also been the daimyō of the country.

- The origin of the Asakura Family is unknown; however, rumors has it that this clan an over one thousand year old family whose fame started with Asakura Ao, a famous Buddhistic monk and a brilliant Shaman mastering many different shamanic arts or manipulation of the spiritual world. He eventually went mad and decided to create a shaman only world, using the Shinigami Spirit to destroy all shinobi. It was then the Asakura Clan allied and together killed Ao. Even after the shame brought onto the family by Ao, the Asakura Clan would take part in the creation of the Hidden Sky Village. After the Second Shinobi War, most of the Asakura Clan was destroyed allowing the Kikmora Clan to take its place in the Moon Council as a Great Family of the Sky.
- As one of the ancient families, the Asakura were said to embody the emptiness of emotion or in relation to the other another clan, antimatter. With this they were always known for their dark spiritual aura (With the exception of Ritsu Asakura). Originating from the birthplace of the spiritual world, most clan members hollowed their leader into the depths of Hell as Shennong saught to gain a power to eradicate the Kurosaki. While in the underworld some weaker members became Togabito and were eternally bound to hell as a result, however some of the few more powerful members managed to tame a few of the Kushanāda in order to have the great beast serve them.

The clan members who abandoned Shennong have since moved to the Soul Society and live within the Rukongai with a few going to Shinō Academy in order to join the Gotei. These however are few and far between due to the limited number who had a strong enough heart to abandon their leader in order to follow their own path. This paradigm between members has taken a toll on the number of Asakura who are of "pure blood" as most have married into other families and the blood of the dark Asakura has become diluted.
