| - Prof. Mamun, for his pioneering contribution in dusty plasma physics, was awarded a number of very prestigious post-doctoral fellowship (by international open competition), e. g. Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship by the AvH Foundation (Germany), Commonwealth Post-doctoral Research Fellowship by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (UK), the Max Planck Research Fellowship by the Max Plank Institute (Germany), etc. to carry out the advanced research in dusty plasma physics in Germany, UK, etc. He has also been appointed a Regular Associate of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy to update his scientific knowledge by making scientific visits to the ICTP time to time. Prof. Mamun has made a substantial contribution towards the published literature of theoretical plasma physics. He has published 147 research articles in international journals, 6 research articles in international conference proceedings published by the American Institute of Physics, and 5 research articles in edited books published by some multi-national publishers. He has written a textbook on introductory dusty plasma physics, published by the Institute of Physics (London). In recognition of his notable contribution in plasma physics, Prof. Mamun has been awarded a number of national and international awards/prizes. The most important of these awards/prizes are (for examples): i) the Bessel Research Award-2009 by the AvH foundation (Germany) in recognition of his past accomplishment of research and teaching; ii) the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Prize-2006 by the TWAS (Trieste, Italy) in recognition of his great contribution in physics; iii) the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) Gold Medal-2004 by the BAS for his excellent research and great contribution to general progress of science and technology in Bangladesh; iv) the Best Young Physicist Prize-2000 by the ITCPP (Trieste, Italy) in recognition of his poineering contribution to the study of nonlinear phenomena in complex plasmas. Prof. Mamun presented invited talks or chaired scientific sessions or worked as a member of the Organizing Committee or International Advisory Board in a number of international plasma physics conferences held in different western countries (viz. Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Greece, Portugal, etc.). Prof. Mamun is now leading a very strong and active/productive plasma physics research group (consisting of 5 faculties, 6 Ph. D. students, 8 M. Phil./M. Sc. research students) in his own country Bangladesh. Prof. Mamun has also direct collaborations with different well-known physicists in different parts (viz. Oxford, Cambridge, London, Scotland, Germany, Sweden, Belgium, Georgia, Portugal, Venezuela, Egypt, Pakistan, etc.) of the globe. Recognizing the scientific excellence of Prof. Mamun, the editors of numerous international prestigious journals [e. g. Physical Review Letters (US), Geophysical Research Letters (US), Physics of Plasmas (UK), Journal of Plasma Physics (UK), Europhysics Letters (European Union), Physics Letters A (Netherlands), New Journal of Physics (UK), Physica Scripta (Sweden), IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science (US), etc.] have appointed him the regular reviewer for their journals. Prof. Mamun was also appointed the Guest Editor of a special issue of the Journal of Plasma Physics published by the Cambridge University Press (UK). Prof. Mamun was offered many attractive permanent positions by many research institutes/universities of western countries like Germany, UK, US, etc. But he declined to have those permanent positions because of his firm commitment or strong determination to serve his own country (Bangladesh), and because of his love for his own country and own university (Jahangirnagar University), where he was brought up and grown up.
