(Terok Nor miniseries, A Stitch in Time Sigils and Unions: Catacombs of Oralius) The Hebitian Records were originally composed in the Lhai'khar language, spoken by a Hebitian people who lived in the area of the modern Lakarian City (known as Lakariy'ane in the modern planetary "common tongue"). The original texts were written on scrolls; however, many of these scrolls were destroyed by the Obsidian Order following Tret Akleen's revolution that created the modern Cardassian Union, in their effort to eradicate the Oralian Way (which did not occur in the Sigils and Unions: Catacombs of Oralius universe). (Sigils and Unions: Catacombs of Oralius--"The Desolate Vigil", Day of the Vipers) Reading from the Hebitian Records features prominently in Oralian worship services. (A Stitch in Time) In some sects, a child's transition into adulthood is marked by his or her first reading from the Hebitian Records after the Guide's reading. The Guide is typically masked during the reading; in those sects that allow laypeople to possess recitation masks, laypeople often don the mask when reading aloud from the Records.
