Edwards started his National Hockey League career with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1968. He would also play with the Toronto Maple Leafs and California Golden Seals. He retired after the 1974 season. Edwards started out with the junior St. Catharines TeePees in 1950-51. He won the Memorial Cup in 1952-53 as a pickup for the Barrie Flyers and then won it again the next year with his own TeePees team. He served as coach of the Salt Lake Golden Eagles in 1975-76 and 1976-77. Later he was an assistant coach of the Peterborough Petes in the late 1990s.
