Robert Louis Stevenson (November 13, 1850 - December 3, 1894) was a Scottish novelist, poet, essayist and travel writer. He's best known for Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Treasure Island and Kidnapped which appeared in films such as Treasure Island, Muppet Treasure Island, Treasure Planet, and Kidnapped. Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde has also been adapted by Disney in Once Upon A Time, as well as spoofed in several other Disney productions.

  • For most of his life, Stevenson suffered from ill health. It was believed during his lifetime that he suffered from tuberculosis but this has been disputed by modern researchers. In search of a suitable climate in which to live for the good of his health, Stevenson spent time in France, the United States, Hawaii, Tahiti and New Zealand. He eventually settled in Samoa, where he spent the final four years of his life.

  • Robert Louis Stevenson was a 19th century Scottish writer and traveler who is well-known for his novel The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (the plot was revealed to him in a dream), as well as other novels such as Treasure Island and Kidnapped. However, his bibliography is very extensive, as he also wrote poetry and several essays. Though he wrote many books, his work was drastically cut short, as Stevenson died at 44 due to health problems in Upolu, one of the Samoan islands. The inscription on his tombstone became a well-known and still-sung Grief Song for many Samoans.
