Starting 26th in the field, Zimmerman completed all but twenty-two laps in route to a solid 13th place effort. He didn't return to the circuit until 1954, racing at Oakland. He fell many laps down in the race in route to a 21st place effort. It wasn't any better in his other event that year, blowing an engine at the halfway point and finishing 38th.

Starting 26th in the field, Zimmerman completed all but twenty-two laps in route to a solid 13th place effort. He didn't return to the circuit until 1954, racing at Oakland. He fell many laps down in the race in route to a 21st place effort. It wasn't any better in his other event that year, blowing an engine at the halfway point and finishing 38th. His final two events came in 1955, competing in the Arizona swing of the schedule. Starting 17th in the field, Zimmerman had late throttle issues and finished 22nd. Luckily, he was able to end his career with a high note at Tuscon. Starting 12th, Zimmerman fell many laps down but still drove to a career-best 12th place effort.
