- Random Adventure is a feature of AdventureQuest that allows you to battle a random monster that corresponds to your level. For the random adventure list, click here
- Random Enconter (ランダムエンカウント, Randamu Enkaunto), previously referred to as Random Battle, is Black Mage's Final Smash in Super Smash Flash 2. This attack causes Black Mage to summon several monsters like Goblins, Bombs, Wolves and Ogres to appear all over the stage while Black Mage disappears. These monsters cannot be killed, but they can be attacked. Then, he reappears in the foreground, along with a move selection screen (like those seen in Final Fantasy). Black Mage selects Flare and unleashes it on his opponents. It is very powerful and it can One-hit KO under many circumstances; however, unlike most Final Smashes, it can be dodged. It can do up to 300% altogether if they are hit by enough monsters.
- The enemies a player can meet vary both on where they are in the game and the terrain they are on. For example, the forest may contain enemies not found in the plains. Some enemies have a very low encounter rate, and thus are almost impossible to find.
- A random encounter is a common RPG situation. It most often occurs when the player character is traversing a distance across the world map or a dungeon, resulting in a conflict with a randomly chosen opponent. In Fallout and Fallout 2, random encounters are only encountered on the world map and can be as simple as a trader wishing to show you their wares, or as convoluted as finding a tin man who needs to be oiled.

- The enemies a player can meet vary both on where they are in the game and the terrain they are on. For example, the forest may contain enemies not found in the plains. Some enemies have a very low encounter rate, and thus are almost impossible to find. There are several ways to prevent random encounters. The player could reduce or eliminate random encounters entirely by traveling on an airship or chocobo, equipping an equipment piece e.g. Molulu's Charm in Final Fantasy VI, or learning an ability e.g. GF Diablos's Enc-None ability in Final Fantasy VIII. Some games also have methods to raise the frequency of random encounters, which is useful for level grinding. In the very early games of the series, whenever the player character takes a step, there is a small chance that a random encounter will initiate. With this method, there is a possibility that the player can encounter an enemy with each consecutive step. Conversely, the player can traverse an entire dungeon floor without encountering a single enemy. This was corrected in later games by using an algorithm that chooses a random number between two set integers after an enemy party is fought. This number is the number of steps the player character can make before encountering the next enemy party.
Not every encounter is hostile. Not every dangerous encounter involves aggressively minded NPCs (such as "Stampede" or "Dehydration" encounters in Fallout). Not every encounter even has an NPC on its map ("Old battle" encounter). Some random encounters are unique, and happen only once during the course of the game (or not at all) - these are commonly known as special encounters. The kind of encounter depends on many factors. The main one is player's location on the World map. Others may be the player character's Outdoorsman skill, Karma level or reputation, as well as their previous actions during the game.
