  • Nicholas Joseph Fury was born in Harlem during the 1960s. He enlisted in the Army when he turned 18 and fought in the Vietnam War. It was there that he met Captain Francis Castiglione aka Frank Castle, who taught Fury how to kill. After the War, he returned to the United States but decided that he was only good at killing, so he reenlisted and was stationed in Iraq. One day he stepped on an IED and was near death. He was saved by a mercenary named Logan, who had also been hit by shrapnel. Fury survived, but lost sight in his left eye for the rest of his life. But, Logan didn't even have a scratch on him. Fury thought that the only way Logan could have survived was if he had some kind of advanced healing factor. He was right, Logan was a Mutant who had escaped from the Weapon X government program. After Fury was honorably discharged, he needed a job, so he turned Logan into the police as an immigrant, and was rewarded with a position in the C.I.A. Logan never forgave Fury for his betrayal, as he was quickly claimed by the government and shipped back to the Weapon X program. While he climbed through the ranks in the C.I.A, Fury met General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, who had heard of Fury's bravery in Vietnam and offered him a job in S.H.I.E.L.D, a secret government organization that felt with super humans, whom Fury had some experience with. Fury ended up being a better S.H.I.E.L.D operative than General Ross, and beat him in the running for S.H.I.E.L.D Director, cementing his reputation as someone that will step on people to further his own interests. Fury became Director just as a war was brewing between the nations Latveria and Wakanda, and Fury dispatched a team of S.H.I.E.L.D genetic guinea pigs consisting of Reed Richards, Susan and Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm, but they soon deserted from S.H.I.E.L.D and became the world famous team of do-gooders the Fantastic Four. Reed Richards would eventually become a high ranking S.H.I.E.L.D scientist. As a mysterious floating silver mysterious being appeared on Earth, warning that something called Galactus was going to devour the planet, Fury suggested that S.H.I.E.L.D form another team of super humans to combat this threat, dubbed "Project:Avengers".
