Although Nate was acquitted at his trial, the Overlander scientist imposed exile on himself and left the kingdom. Following this, Kodos attempted to kill Naugus as well, though the wizard managed to fool Kodos with an illusion of himself and take haven in the Zone of Silence, claiming to return when the Great War ended.
