West Side Players was a student theatre group that prided itself on not being part of the University of Iowa theatre department. It lasted for over ten years. All of its shows were free. The budget was provided by the University of Iowa as the group was an official student group with an office in the basement of the Iowa Memorial Union. Shows ranged from Shakespeare to original works. WSP performed in dorm lounges, the IMU, the International Center, the Wesley Center and other locations around Iowa City. It ended sometime in the late 1990s.
