The Associated name has been in existence for over 50 years. In 2001, Associated Supermarkets and another grocery chain, Gristede's, stopped advertising in the New York Daily News after the paper ran a series of articles critical of the grocery stores' lack of cleanliness. In 1995, RBG Management Company, a member company of Associated Supermarkets, was accused of paying bribes to the Meatpackers' Union.
