L.A. Investigations was a private investigator firm, based in Los Angeles, California. Before Marie Warner was due to marry Reza Naiyeer, Marie's sister Kate hired Ralph Burton, a P.I. at L.A. Investigations, to look into Reza's financial history. While nothing suspicious appeared in Reza's records, Burton came across evidence that Reza had had dealings with Syed Ali, an international financier with ties to terrorist groups. On the morning of the wedding, Burton called to inform Kate what he had found, and had her find Reza's passport and read him the recently visited countries, in order to cross-reference the dates with Ali's activities. With this information, Burton verified that Reza and Ali had been in contact, and, by law, alerted Homeland Security. Eventually, CTU Los Angeles sent Tony Almeida to question Reza. ("Day 2: 8:00am-9:00am", "9:00am-10:00am", "10:00am-11:00am", "12:00pm-1:00pm") Later in the afternoon, Burton left the office for the rest of the day. Kate called the office, but reached Paul Koplin, Burton's boss. She asked him for help accessing Bob Warner's computer records, as Reza had implicated him in the supposed business deal with Ali. Koplin came to the house and set to work hacking into Bob's office computer, eventually coming across a file with a comsat grid. Koplin explained that such files were only used by people with government security clearances, and couldn't say why Bob might have one. The intrusion alerted Syed Ali, who sent operatives to kidnap both Kate and Koplin from the house. At his safe house, Ali's men tortured Koplin for information, executing him after he insisted they hadn't seen anything on the computer. ("Day 2: 2:00pm-3:00pm", "3:00pm-4:00pm", "4:00pm-5:00pm")
