  • The Gray Alliance was a union forged during the Fifth Lunar Eclipse that sought to drive the invading demons back to Sheogh. It consisted of High King Alaron of Irollan, Emperor Alexei IV of the Holy Griffin Empire, and Cyrus, First of the Circle of the Silver Cities. In their honor, the war was later named the War of the Gray Alliance. The alliance also sought other allies, but since most of the fighting took place in the desert of Sahaar, at the border of the Silver Cities, the Nagas and the Dwarves were too far from the conflict to feel involved. In addition, the Orcs, Dark Elves, and Necromancers had unsettled grudges with the members of the alliance, and refused to aid them. Despite this, the Gray Alliance was able to push the demons back, and when they realized that their invasion had failed, the demons retreated to a magic portal that would send them back to Sheogh. In an attempt to destroy Kha-Beleth, the Demon Sovereign, Emperor Alexei ordered his knights to charge into the portal. His allies, however, hesitated, and Alexei and his knights were killed by the demons.
