A transcript is a retrospective written record of dialogue, and like a script (a prospective record) may include other scene information such as props or actions. In the case of a transcript of a film or television episode, ideally it is a verbatim record. Because closed-captioning is usually written separately, its text may have errors and does not necessarily reflect the true Canonical transcript. [Lost theme music] [Lost end credits theme music] Kris White: Will we finally get the answer to... the baby; will your character potentially discover that he may or may not be the father?

Kris White: Desmond get caught in a Catch-22, a mystery woman falls from the sky, and Charlie takes one in the neck of his guitar. We'll have commentary on all that and more in today's Official Lost Podcast hosted by abc.com. [Lost theme music] Kris White: Welcome to the podcast in support of the episode "D.O.C.", which airs Wednesday, April 25 from 10 to 11 on ABC, and the next day at abc.com. Executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are back with us today and feeling a little less loopy. They'll rehash last week's episode, "Catch-22", and give us a hint at what they've conceived for our next episode "D.O.C.". First up though, seeing as this week is a Jin/Sun flashback that promises to answer the question "who's Sun's baby [sic] daddy?", we thought it prudent to check in with Daniel Dae Kim and Yunjin Kim, who apparently heard conflicting stories in answer to that question. [Lost end credits theme music] Kris White: Will we finally get the answer to... the baby; will your character potentially discover that he may or may not be the father? Daniel Dae Kim: Uh... that's a good question; I don't know, myself. And to be completely truthful, I was told one thing and Yunjin was told another, so we're as up in the air as anybody. I'm looking forward to finding out for Jin. But as far as my work and preparation is concerned, I think Jin definitely does believe it's his child, and it's - I'll approach it that way until I hear otherwise. Yunjin Kim: Well, as soon as I read the script, where Sun finds out that she's pregnant, I called Carlton Cuse, one of our executive producers, and I said, "Carlton, I need to know. Not for me, but as an actress playing this scene." And he was just like, "Well, we're gonna shoot it many different ways." Daniel Dae Kim: That was a funny conversation 'cause we were sitting in the trailer and I said, "Don't worry, I know the answer." And she said, "Oh, yeah, I know the answer too." I was like, "Oh good"; then we started talking about it and she said, "Wait a minute... that's not what I heard." And we're like, "Waaait a minute. [imitates phone call beeps] Carlton?" [laughs] So... yeah, I mean, I thinks it's... it's a way of keeping us on our toes, and you know, anything can happen; and that way, it's a lot like life; you don't know the answers to everything, and you just keep goin'. Kris White: Of course, the question of who is the father of Sun's baby isn't the only controversy caused by these two characters recently. There's also the case of "did someone push Jae out the window?" Daniel Dae Kim: I read that people thought that, uh... maybe Sun's father had pushed him off, or maybe I had pushed him off, you know, but I can... I can see how people could've thought that. On the other hand, he had the pearl necklace, and... I think it's an example of how invested the audience is in the show, and how they - it's possible to read between the lines of any given situation. Yunjin Kim: It's not like Sun pushed him off the balcony, or anything. [laughs] Sun cannot be responsible for two deaths, just one. But yeah, he... from the script, it was clear that he committed suicide. But how they edit it, that was very interesting... was, you never know why he... you know what I mean? You never see him jumping off the balcony... him deciding; so there were a lot of speculations, whether it was Sun's father who pushed him off the balcony, or it was actually Sun who pushed him off the balcony. So a lot of people were, after they saw that - people logged on to so many different websites and just said, you know, there are so many different possibilities. And it was really interesting how they made that and left it very ambiguously. Daniel Dae Kim: And I think the actor playing Jae was... was hoping that there was some more foul play involved, 'cause then they could've flashed back to him again. [laughs] Kris White: Unfortunately for the very talented actor who played Jae Lee, his character is dead. And as Damon and Carlton have cleared up in a podcast previously, no one pushed him. He jumped. To find out if any more bodies will be falling past windows in this or other upcoming episodes, we turn it over once again to executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. [Lost podcast theme music] Carlton Cuse: Well hey, Damon. Damon Lindelof: Hi there, Carlton. Carlton Cuse: Welcome to another Lost podcast. I'm Carlton Cuse and sitting to my left is Damon Lindelof. Damon Lindelof: You're looking a lot chippier - chip - chippier? Chipper? Carlton Cuse: Chippier. Damon Lindelof: More chipper? Carlton Cuse: I'm looking chippier today, yes, thank you. Damon Lindelof: Your hysterical bouts of uncontrollable laughter have passed, you're wearing a nice sweater, your pants... Carlton Cuse: You have a jaunty... jaunty hat today. No pants, jaunty hat. Damon Lindelof: Well, you know, you gotta... Carlton Cuse: No shave either. Damon Lindelof: Well, you know, I've completely let myself go. Carlton Cuse: You have every... all the... a lot of hair growth from the neck up. Damon Lindelof: It's that time of year. Carlton Cuse: Yeah. My guess, it is. Well, we're actually kinda happy because we just finished writing the finale last week, and have got a little bit of rest, we're editing the show. Damon Lindelof: Ironically though, they've been shooting it for two weeks, so... Carlton Cuse: They have, we... It was a very odd experience to finish writing a script that was already actually filming, but uh... Damon Lindelof: We were going through it a couple days ago, 'cause it was a little long, looking for lifts, and it was like, "Ooh, here's a great thing that we don't need." And it was like... Carlton Cuse: [chuckling] "Oh, already shot that." Damon Lindelof: "We shot it a week ago." [chuckles] Well, I guess it's gonna come away in editing, so. Carlton Cuse: Exactly. And we're heading to Hawaii to visit the gang down there, which should be fun. Damon Lindelof: Awesome, really looking forward to that, Carlton. Carlton Cuse: I am too, Damon. So uh... let's talk about "Catch-22" and then let's move on from there. Damon Lindelof: Yeah. Carlton Cuse: How about that? Damon Lindelof: Excellent. "Catch-22", last weeks episode, written by one of our new writers, Brian K. Vaughan, and Jeffery Pinkner. No one knows what the "K" stands for, by the way; it's a big mystery here around the office. Carlton Cuse: Yeah. If you know the answer, if you're someone from Brian K. Vaughan's past and you know what the "K" stands for, please lets us know. Damon Lindelof: If you have any suggestions... Carlton Cuse: Brian is a comic book writer; or graphic novelist, would that be a better way to call - describe him? Damon Lindelof: He's both. He's written both. He writes a comic book called Y: The Last Man, and Ex Machina, and just recently wrapped up the - Runaways, but then he wrote a graphic novel called Pride of Baghdad, about lions in Baghdad after the allied forces arrive, which is really cool, so. Enough about Brian, though. Carlton Cuse: Yeah. Damon Lindelof: What everybody's asking, Carlton, is, "Did Desmond change things by choosing to save Charlie?" Obviously now, once again, Charlie is supposed to die. First he was supposed to get hit by lightning, then he was supposed to drown, then he was supposed to... Carlton Cuse: Take an arrow. Damon Lindelof: ...try to get the bird and, like, bang his head on some rocks, now he's supposed to get an arrow in the neck, and Desmond has once again, you know, intervened with fate. Carlton Cuse: I think he probably did change things; and what that means is that, you know, there might be a new iteration under which Charlie might be expected to die. I mean, that would be the logical conclusion of looking at those things. Damon Lindelof: So you're saying it hasn't gone away; it's gonna - we'll be re-exploring that theme. Carlton Cuse: I think the ultimate question to be asked is, "Is there any way of postponing - are they just postponing the inevitable?" I mean, is there some way for Charlie to lift the sort of premonition that Desmond is having about his fate? Damon Lindelof: Interesting. Well, maybe... what would happen if Desmond were to die and he just stopped having the premonitions? Carlton Cuse: Hmm. That's curious. Damon Lindelof: Would that save Charlie? If he, like, kinda took his place, or... Carlton Cuse: Yeah. Damon Lindelof: So it's... something to think about. Carlton Cuse: I think... I'm hoping there's gonna be more on this before the end of the season. Damon Lindelof: Carlton, I think your hopes will be answered. And uh... can you... can you tell us a little bit about "Catch-22" itself? What is a Catch-22? We see the book itself, actually in the episode. Carlton Cuse: We see a European edition of the Joseph Heller novel, which, again, like many of the books on our show, has some significance. But why don't you tell the audience what a Catch-22 is? Damon Lindelof: A Catch-22 is basically a no-win situation. It's basically you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. So, the scenario is, you know, if Desmond tells Charlie that he is going to die, Charlie will obviously avoid the arrow. But Desmond believes that Charlie has to die in order to be reunited with Penny, 'cause this is the sequence in which he sees the events. So either Charlie dies or he doesn't get to see Penny, both of which end up manifesting themselves as a result of the episode. So in fact, here's this woman at the end of the episode, and she says one word at the end; she says, "Desmond." So obviously she recognizes him... Carlton Cuse: Plus she's got a picture... Damon Lindelof: Right, we found her bag. Carlton Cuse: ...with... of Desmond and Penny, so... Damon Lindelof: Let's just clear this up, by the way. Carlton Cuse: ...did Penny send her? Damon Lindelof: Well, there's two pictures, right? Carlton Cuse: Right. Damon Lindelof: We've... we've clearly identified that the picture that got taken in "Flashes Before Your Eyes", there were two copies of it. Desmond has one, Penny has one. So obviously this is a photo copy of... must be... Carlton Cuse: Penny's copy, right. Damon Lindelof: ...Penny's photo, because Desmond's got his. Carlton Cuse: Right. Damon Lindelof: So I would - yeah, I mean... Carlton Cuse: It seems pretty...pretty... to make sense that Penny sent this woman. Damon Lindelof: She doesn't look like Penny, so unless Penny has had a lot of significant plastic surgery... so, maybe she's a friend of Penny's, or... I don't know. Carlton Cuse: I don't know. But it's very intriguing. Damon Lindelof: But it's... it's Lost, so you're probably gonna make me wait about seven years to find out, right? Carlton Cuse: Nope. Nope, you are gonna find out who she is very soon. Damon Lindelof: Oh, I'm looking forward to that. Carlton Cuse: Good. Damon Lindelof: So, she'll have more to say next... Carlton Cuse: You didn't... you didn't sound genuine about that. Damon Lindelof: ...she'll have more to say next week, or...? Carlton Cuse: Uh, yes. Damon Lindelof: Oh good. Carlton Cuse: She will. Damon Lindelof: Speaking of things you never tell us, Carlton... Carlton Cuse: Yes? Damon Lindelof: ...the wire that leads out into the ocean. Now Sayid... Carlton Cuse: Oh that thing? Damon Lindelof: ...Sayid first found that wire in I believe it was "Solitary"... Carlton Cuse: Yeah, from the episode seven. Damon Lindelof: ...way back in Season 1, and he finds this wire, and he follows it into the jungle, and that leads him to Rousseau. And then again, in "Numbers", they find it again. Carlton Cuse: Right. Damon Lindelof: Now here we are again at the infamous wire, but nobody's asking the obvious question, Carlton. Carlton Cuse: What is this stupid wire? Yeah, we didn't... Damon Lindelof: What - where is it going to? Carlton Cuse: How could they do that whole episode, how could nobody ask what the wire is? I mean... Damon Lindelof: Ridiculous. Carlton Cuse: ...it was just lame. Damon Lindelof: Who's writing this thing, Carlton? Carlton Cuse: Um, you know what? You know what, Damon? I'm gonna promise you that we're gonna find out where that wire leads. That's gonna be a mystery answered this season. Damon Lindelof: Oh, so like, some Other is just gonna go, "Oh, it leads to a desalination machine"? Carlton Cuse: Yeah. Damon Lindelof: That's it? Carlton Cuse: But that's not what he's gonna say. Damon Lindelof: Okay. Carlton Cuse: But, there is gonna... you're gonna... you're gonna get the answer to that question. Damon Lindelof: Carlton, if you promise, I believe you. Carlton Cuse: I will... I will promise you that. Damon Lindelof: So should we do just a little quick... quick prehash? Carlton Cuse: Yeah. Damon Lindelof: We've got "D.O.C." coming up next week. Do you want to tell us what that stands for, Carlton? Carlton Cuse: Uh, "D.O.C." stands for Date Of Conception. Damon Lindelof: [surprised sounding] Oh. Interesting. Carlton Cuse: And um, I think this is a really cool episode because we're gonna finally find out who's the father of Sun's baby. Damon Lindelof: Wow. So... Carlton Cuse: And... you know, there's a couple of pretty good choices there. Damon Lindelof: As to who it could be? Carlton Cuse: Yep. Jin. Jae. Damon Lindelof: Uh-huh. And then some... and then the mystery, mystery... Carlton Cuse: Mystery Person. Damon Lindelof: ...person. Wouldn't that... Carlton Cuse: Sawyer? Damon Lindelof: ...wouldn't that be great if, literally at the end of that episode, however Sun finds out, they would open up an envelope, or however they do it over there, and they'd say, "Sun, the father of your baby is not Jin; it is not Jae Lee; it is, in fact, Mystery Person." Bang. Lost. Carlton Cuse: Wow. Damon Lindelof: What do you think the audience's response would be, if we did that? Carlton Cuse: Uh, "jump the shark". Damon Lindelof: [chuckles] Again. Carlton Cuse: Pretty much "jump the shark" again. Damon Lindelof: So we will - it's either Jae Lee or Jin? Carlton Cuse: They o... they open up an envelope over there? That's kinda? I mean, like... "over there" like, what? Damon Lindelof: They have book clubs and... Carlton Cuse: Oh, God knows... Damon Lindelof: ...chicken in their refrigerators, you're saying they don't have envelopes? Carlton Cuse: Nope. No. Damon Lindelof: Alright. Well, I haven't seen any yet, so you might be right. So... yeah, so we've got a Sun and Jin flashback, obviously, coming up. We'll find out paternity, and I would also assume that Juliet's motives might be - we might shed a little more light on that. Carlton Cuse: Yeah, obviously people are very curious as to what is up with that woman? Damon Lindelof: Yeah, what is up with her, Carlton? Carlton Cuse: What is up with her? Damon Lindelof: She good or is she bad, or...? Carlton Cuse: Umm... well right now, I think... it seems like she's bad; but I wouldn't, you know, make a final decision yet. Damon Lindelof: Let's get to the questions, Carlton. Carlton Cuse: Time for some questions. [Questions fanfare] Damon Lindelof: May I begin? 'Cause I got some doozies for you. Carlton Cuse: You... you got all the good questions today, apparently. Or so you said. Damon Lindelof: Here's a little behind-the-scenes podcast knowledge. Kris, our producer, basically hands us a sheet of questions submitted by you guys, and it's very thick, and Carlton and I, so that we don't read every question in advance, chop it in half. So, this week I took the back half and Carlton took the front half. But... Carlton Cuse: That way we can surprise each other with the questions. Damon Lindelof: Right, and last week, as Carlton was reading his questions, he started cracking up hysterically. At the time, I didn't realize he was under the influence of some sort of... Carlton Cuse: Sleep deprivation. Damon Lindelof: ...very profound narcotic. But uh... Carlton Cuse: It was like five days of writing with no sleep, I just completely lost it. Damon Lindelof: And my questions were leaving a little bit to be desired, but this time I feel like I've got some awesome questions for you. Carlton Cuse: Okay, Okay Damon. Okay. Damon Lindelof: Starting with... Carlton Cuse: The bar is high. Damon Lindelof: ...Carlton? This is from Pile of Atoms. Four posts in the last 90 days; that's a nice - four posts, that's good, you've got a life and... Carlton Cuse: Yeah. Damon Lindelof: ...probably do other things than write posts for Lost. "Hi Damon and Carlton. Was Ben conceived in a test tube? Or does he have human parents? Was he conceived on one of the islands, or was he conceived somewhere else? In the scene where one of Juliet's first mother-to-be-guinea-pig died on the operating table, where was the father of the baby? Was Ben the father? Thanks guys. You turn my hump days into fun days." Carlton Cuse: Wow. Damon Lindelof: So, we'll just start with... Carlton Cuse: We'll break it down. Damon Lindelof: ..."was Ben conceived in a test tube?" Carlton Cuse: Umm... no. Damon Lindelof: "Does he have human parents?" Carlton Cuse: Yes. Damon Lindelof: I love that we're getting good answers here. "Was he conceived on one of the islands, or was he conceived somewhere else?" Carlton Cuse: Uh... he claims that he was conceived on the Island... Damon Lindelof: Born. Carlton Cuse: He said he was born on the Island, right... Damon Lindelof: Right. Carlton Cuse: ...but I don't know whether I would believe him. Damon Lindelof: Interesting. "In the scene... Carlton Cuse: And I - We will know - we will learn more about that. Damon Lindelof: I can't wait. And... "In the scene where one of Juliet's first mother-to-be-guinea-pig died on the operating table, where was the father of the baby? And was Ben the father?" Carlton Cuse: Uh... well, the father of the baby, that's a good question. Um, he might've been out, you know, doing one of those Others raids in, like, those crazy rags. Uh... Damon Lindelof: He was probably handin' out cigars, and then somebody was like, "Oh, she's dead." Carlton Cuse: "No, sorry. Dead." Yeah. Yeah, he wasn't around - and it wasn't Ben, though. We never imagined that Ben was the - Ben is not like, you know, he's not like one of those, like, polygamist dudes. He's not out there like, you know... Damon Lindelof: The guy on Big Love? Carlton Cuse: ...impregnating all the women on the Island. Damon Lindelof: You know what, Carlton? I just wanna thank you from the bottom of my own heart for giving us some definitive answers to those questions. Carlton Cuse: Absolutely. Damon Lindelof: I'm sure Pile of Atoms is very appreciative. Carlton Cuse: Here's a... here's a question you can answer definitively also, Damon. Damon Lindelof: Oh, I'd love to. Carlton Cuse: "Aaron Can Talk?" by ILikeLost12. Damon Lindelof: Uh-oh. Carlton Cuse: 126 posts in the last 90 days. Now this is what happens when you post 126 times and watch the show too much. Damon Lindelof: Okay. Carlton Cuse: "Hello Damon, Carlton. I was wondering if anyone else heard Aaron say 'Claire' during 'One of Us'. Does this mean he might be learning to speak now?" Damon Lindelof: Uhh... I don't think the baby... Carlton Cuse: [strained voice] "Aaron." Damon Lindelof: ...I don't think the baby said [strained voice] "Claire." Carlton Cuse: [strained voice] "Claire." Damon Lindelof: I have a... I have a baby. His name... Carlton Cuse: Yeah, but you say your baby says words all the time. Damon Lindelof: Yes. He says, "Haaamm." Carlton Cuse: Yeah. Damon Lindelof: That's what he says. And he also says, "Glllorrb." [Carlton chuckles] And my wife is always like, "What is a glorb?" And I'm like, "I don't know, don't ask me. I'm not the one saying it." [Carlton chuckles] But - so, it's possible that Aaron said it, but that was certainly not intentional on our part. Carlton Cuse: Okay. Damon Lindelof: But you should read what he is writing. Carlton Cuse: Yes. Damon Lindelof: 'Cause that is pretty crazy. Carlton Cuse: He is working on a novel. Damon Lindelof: Hey Carlton? This is from Lost in Croatia. Carlton Cuse: Wow. Damon Lindelof: One post in the last 90 days. "First, I would like to compliment you for creating the best TV show ever. Lost is so great, the tremendous number of highly moral people in Croatia had abandoned their moral standards and resorted to illegal downloading of Season 3 episodes. So please, as a compensation for the downfall of morality in Croatia, answer these few questions in your next podcast. Number 1 -- since it would be odd to travel with a submarine from Miami to somewhere in the Pacific, is it reasonable to believe that Juliet traveled by plane to another Mittelos base in the Pacific, and that the submarine was docked there, within a day's submarine journey to the Island?" Carlton Cuse: I think that's not a bad theory. Damon Lindelof: Interesting. Carlton Cuse: I think it's pretty - I've been to Croatia, by the way. I had a... Damon Lindelof: But we're getting... Carlton Cuse: Okay, sorry. Damon Lindelof: ...we're getting to that. You just wait. "Number 2... Carlton Cuse: I had a great time there. Damon Lindelof: "...Cobra in Exposé = Jacob in Lost? Could we assume that Jacob is someone we saw on the show before, and that it will be a shock when we finally realize who Jacob is?" Carlton Cuse: It would be awesome if Jacob turned out to be Billy Dee Williams, but it's not true. Damon Lindelof: It'll be a shock alright, though, that's for sure. Carlton Cuse: It would be a shock, yeah. Damon Lindelof: Uh... "Number 3 -- please confirm again that Christian Shephard is dead. I'm so tired of people who believe the opposite. Carlton Cuse: Well, you know, for those of you who believe the opposite, you're wrong. For those of you who believe Christian Shephard is dead, you're vindicated. How about that? Damon Lindelof: Wow. Another definitive answer. Carlton Cuse: I mean, I'm not messin' around today. I'm not messin' around. Damon Lindelof: Of course... [low disclaimer voice] Carlton might be talking about the word 'dead' in a way that you don't fully understand yet. [both chuckling] I feel like I had to do that disclaimer, like at the end of a... Carlton Cuse: That's good. A disclaimer. Damon Lindelof: Yeah. Carlton Cuse: If 'dead' means 'dead' in the conventional narrative sense. Damon Lindelof: [disclaimer voice] Assuming by 'dead', you mean rotting and decomposing. [both chuckling] No. Carlton Cuse: Exactly. Damon Lindelof: "One final thing. Carlton, just to let you know, Mira Furlan was born in Croatia, so the mystery is why the crazy French chick has a Croatian accent, and not Yugoslav or Serbian, as you are so fond of saying." Carlton Cuse: Ohh. Damon Lindelof: "Please, if you cannot answer these questions, then just say hi to all fans in Croatia." So now's your opportunity to talk about how lovely Croatia is. Carlton Cuse: I love Croatia, and I've been up and down the coast of what was Yugoslavia, now Croatia and other countries; and the Island of Brač off the coast of Croatia is a beautiful place, and you should all go there. Okay, so this is one you can answer that... the fans will be very happy if you answer this. Damon Lindelof: Wow. Carlton Cuse: Then, it starts - it says, "'Catch-22' trailer?", by Hugo Lost. 133 posts in the last 90 days. "Locke looks like he's dying???", with about 90 question marks after that. "And I was told by another Lost fan that the season will end with a war; a war with at least two or three Lostaways getting life-threatening injuries and two of them will die, and one of them is Desmond. If you go to lostspoilers.com, "Catch-22" trailer, the first video should be it. And Jin getting stabbed and Hugo gets shot." Damon Lindelof: I will not say on the record that these events are not going to occur, and that there won't be a war in the finale. And that several of our... you know, lovely Lostaways will have their lives threatened, if not taken. However... [long pause] I'm not familiar with any of the scenes you just explained. [both laughing] Um, so if they were to, um, if they were to die, none of the ways that you describe - if we were to shoot Hurley, can you imagine what would happen? Carlton Cuse: That would be it. Damon Lindelof: Can you imagine? Carlton Cuse: It would be over. Damon Lindelof: Terrible. Carlton Cuse: Terrible. Damon Lindelof: Hey, here's a quick one for ya, Carlton. Carlton Cuse: Yes. Damon Lindelof: From B.N. Cassheth... Carlton Cuse: I'll try to answer it as quickly as I can... Damon Lindelof: ...Casheth? Beyond Casheth. 32 posts, last 90 days. "Desmond and Aaron's real dad. Why is Desmond and Claire's ex-boyfriend..." I forgot his name. Carlton Cuse: Tom. Damon Lindelof: Tom. Carlton Cuse: Thomas. Damon Lindelof: "Why are... why is their art so similar?" [Carlton starts laughing] "I was just looking at Lostpedia and saw both of their artworks, and they are almost exactly alike. Why?" [Both laughing] Carlton Cuse: Well... busted. [both laughing] This is because our producing director in Hawaii, Jack Bender, is an artist who has decided to sort of add his own interpretive touch to certain places in the show. So when we call for certain artworks in the script, Jack has taken upon himself to paint those [sic] artwork, and his style is uniquely his own; and so that is Jack Bender's artwork. In fact, he had an art show in Beverly Hills called... what was it called, Lost uhh... Damon Lindelof: Lost and Found. Carlton Cuse: ...Lost and Found? Damon Lindelof: I think it was just called Found. Carlton Cuse: Found? Yeah. Damon Lindelof: Yeah. Carlton Cuse: But it was also - it was - included, actually, the painting, Desmond's mural from the Hatch... Damon Lindelof: And Jack also did the painting that hangs in Widmore's office in "Flashes Before Your Eyes." Carlton Cuse: The polar bear. Yeah. Damon Lindelof: So that answers that. Wow. Carlton, I gotta say... Carlton Cuse: We are rockin' today. Alright, here's one for you. Damon Lindelof: ...I don't know if there are gonna be any mysteries left at the end of this podcast. Carlton Cuse: Okay. Well this... Damon Lindelof: Shoot. Carlton Cuse: ...try this one on for size, Damon... Damon Lindelof: I've only got one more left for you. Shoot. Carlton Cuse: This is my... this is my last one for you. Damon Lindelof: I can't wait. Carlton Cuse: It's - the title is "Ben's lover," by Serena Loves Lost. 12 posts in the last 90 days... Damon Lindelof: Wow. Carlton Cuse: ...which puts here squarely in the realm of sanity. "Dear Damon and Carlton. I love the show, and I think it's 'too sexy'." [Damon chuckles] "But one question I really want to know..." I wonder if that's "too sexy," or like, too sexy? Like - well, you'll see. You... that - you can - I'll read the sentence, and you give me an interpretation of whether she actually thinks there's too much sex, or whether she thinks it's like, "ooh, 'too sexy,'" like, "it's cool." Damon Lindelof: Yeah yeah, Okay. Carlton Cuse: "I love the show and I think it's too sexy, but one question I really want to know is does Ben have, or ever had, a lover, either on or off the Island? He seems to have a tough exterior built around him, but..." Why am I doing it like a Zsa Zsa Gabor accent? [laughs] I don't know. Damon Lindelof: 'Cause of the "too sexy" thing. Carlton Cuse: Too sexy. Damon Lindelof: You're literally - what's the name of this questioner? Carlton Cuse: Serena. Damon Lindelof: You're just picturing Serena with a gaggle of fruit on her head, bopping around like Charo in The Love Boat, Carlton... Carlton Cuse: Yes I am. Damon Lindelof: ...and I just want to tell you... Carlton Cuse: Well, that's... probably... Damon Lindelof: ...that's probably exactly what's going [Appears to be an edit] Damon Lindelof: Okay, so I think - I'm gonna go with "tooo sexy!" Carlton Cuse: Yeah. Damon Lindelof: Like, she's really [Appears to be another edit] Damon Lindelof: Um, in terms of seeing a softer side of Ben, sort of a guy who doesn't kill rabbits and... [both laughing] um, you know, that's about as... Carlton Cuse: To capture pregnant women... Damon Lindelof: ...that's about as soft as he gets. Carlton Cuse: ...order people to steal boys off of rafts, uh... Damon Lindelof: Yeah. I don't know. Carlton Cuse: Probably not... Damon Lindelof: I'm gonna go with that the - that - but - I will say this. Carlton Cuse: Yes. Damon Lindelof: Ben has been in love. And we will get... Carlton Cuse: Yes, Ben has been in love. Damon Lindelof: ...and we will get some sense of who that person might've been... in a bout two weeks. Carlton Cuse: Hmm. Damon Lindelof: Wow, we - Carlton Cuse: But not a full - not a - you won't... Damon Lindelof: You get a sense. Carlton Cuse: You get a sense. Damon Lindelof: Yeah. Carlton Cuse: A sense. Damon Lindelof: Alright Carlton... Carlton Cuse: Alright, last question. Let's get - let's hit the road. Damon Lindelof: ...my final question, and this one I know you can answer. Carlton Cuse: Alright. Damon Lindelof: From Maxinova. 128 posts in the last 90 days. Carlton Cuse: Okay. Damon Lindelof: We have to make a chart that basically is like, "here at 99 posts you're sort of... Carlton Cuse: Yeah. Damon Lindelof: ...is where the cutoff is." And then that way, when people get to the 100th post, they'll actually think, "Gee, this is where I become insane." Carlton Cuse: Stop. Yes. Damon Lindelof: "This is where I literally start to hear... [chuckles] hear Aaron speaking to me." [both laughing] Yeah. At around 190 posts, that's when you start to hear Vincent speaking to you. And, at a hundred - at around 205 posts... Carlton Cuse: You start going to the Heroes website. Damon Lindelof: Yeah exactly. You can actually begin to write on the show at 205 posts. So here we go, Carlton. "Hey! Are we ever gonna see a Rousseau flashback? If so, please remember to include Montand and his arm." Carlton Cuse: Awesome! Oh my God. We love you. Yes, Montand and his missing arm is something that we are desperate to get to. Damon Lindelof: [chuckling] His missing arm. Carlton Cuse: We want to do a Rousseau flashback. We just haven't gotten there yet. But, you know, if we do a Rousseau flashback, it would really be incomplete if we didn't deal with Montand and his missing arm. In the mean time, if you want more about Montand... you know... Damon Lindelof: Rent Wage... Carlton Cuse: Wages of Fear. Damon Lindelof: ...Wages of Fear. Carlton Cuse: Yeah. Wages of Fear, which was the inspiration for Montand. Damon Lindelof: Someone asked me once if Marvin Candle was Montand, because Marvin Candle is obviously wearing some form of prosthesis. Carlton Cuse: Prosthetic. Yeah. Damon Lindelof: And we know that he... that he has been on the Island. But the problem is that that film, the Orientation film, was made in 1980 or '81. Carlton Cuse: Yeah. Damon Lindelof: Um, the copyright I think is '81. And the French woman has only been there for 16 years. Carlton Cuse: Yeah. Damon Lindelof: So, that would preclude him being Montand. Carlton Cuse: Right. So. Damon Lindelof: [dramatic voice] Or... would it? [Both chuckling] Carlton Cuse: Okay, Damon. Damon Lindelof: I like this sort of more lucid 'you', Carlton. [Carlton starts laughing] Although the slightly manic and insane 'you' is a special treat, for a time. Carlton Cuse: Yes it was, indeed. So uh... Damon Lindelof: I'm standing by with my Others-patented zapper, just in case I needed to put... Carlton Cuse: [makes zapping sound] I was - it's been - Damon Lindelof: ...I needed to put you down. Carlton Cuse: he's [...] holding it over my neck the whole podcast. Damon Lindelof: Yeah. Well, you passed. Carlton Cuse: Alright guys. Well, we love ya and we'll talk to ya next week. Damon Lindelof: auf Wiedersehen. Carlton Cuse: Aloha.
