Frances Wright (Fanny Wright; September 6, 1795 - December 13, 1852) was a Scottish-born American [[utopia|Utopian] writer, editor, orator and activist, a freethinker, advocate of sexual liberation and free love, and lifelong rebel. One of the epithets commonly given her was 'the Great Red Harlot of Infidelity'. In 1824 while visiting New Harmony in Indiana, the utopian socialist community established by Robert Owen (1771 - 1858) and his son Robert Dale Owen (1801 - 1877), Wright was immediately converted to Owenism and decided to form her own cooperative community.
