Fumes from the chemical spill were carried out to Knapp Street. The Golden Gate Inn was a hotel at the junction of Knapp Street and the Belt Parkway, which opened in 1964 and closed in 2010. The hotel was a popular destination in the 1960s and 1970s. It was a convenient location for the riders of party boats that used to dock at the bay near Emmons Avenue and those coming from Kennedy Airport.
