The Twelve Nidana jutsu exist on the outer link of the original Six Paths techniques and act as a way to cleanse the body and soul of all negative karma. Giving the person a chance to be cleansed of their negative Karma and be reborn absolved of their past. However should they rebel rather than seek this redemption their souls will be stored in the Naraka Realm where they are doomed to repeat the cycle of the lower Six Paths (Deva, Human, Asura, Preta, Animal, Naraka), until the finally allow for their souls to be cleansed allow them to be reincarnated.

However should they rebel rather than seek this redemption their souls will be stored in the Naraka Realm where they are doomed to repeat the cycle of the lower Six Paths (Deva, Human, Asura, Preta, Animal, Naraka), until the finally allow for their souls to be cleansed allow them to be reincarnated. In order for this jutsu to work Raido must be able to grab them by contact or by way of the Naraka Paths, King of Hell summoning. Once this is done the King of Hell will detect their Dukkha( suffering", "anxiety", or "dissatisfaction) using its interrogation in the same manner it can tell when someone is lying to him by grabbing a hold of their body and tongue. From here they are devoured and ingested which begins the restoration, attempt to burn off their negative karma. The only way to break the cycle is to allow your soul to be cleanse, as if you fail to burn of your negative Karma you will repeat the cycle for all eternity, reliving the moment as if it never happened the 1st time. Raido came into study of this move after he learned the truth of Fa' rao's cause, after hearing it he went on a journey to better understand the Six Paths as a whole especially the Outer Path to which this jutsu was found and he practiced hopping to employ vs Fa' rao in their final battle.
