Mycroft also appears in "The Final Problem" (1893) and "The Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans" (1908). The character of Sherlock Holmes' more knowledgeable and more gifted older brother has become more significant in more recent Sherlock Holmes stories by writers other than Doyle and in adaptations of Doyle's stories to other media.
