Cleansing Fire was a ward against the Shadowlands Taint developed by the Kuni Shugenja. It consisted of two sheafs of paper, with invocations to the Fire kami written on both. The first sheet is applied like a bandage, and the second released the kami to cleanse the affected area incinerating the flesh. A secondary enchantment closed the wound. It was named for the pain a samurai must endure to be so treated.

| - The Cleansing Fire (originally christened Vigilant Acolyte) was a heavily modified SDV-class heavy corvette that was both notable and infamous for being the personal warship of and base of operations for the rogue Sangheili reformist Shinsu 'Refum. Constructed during the waning months of the Human Covenant War, the Cleansing Fire served in multiple skirmishes and operations as the Vigilant Acolyte during the events of the Great Schism. During the rise of the Fallen and the ensuing conflict, the Vigilant Acolyte was deployed to Sanghelios to aid in attempts to suppress the Fallen on the Sangheili homeworld. Although it served with distinction during multiple actions against Fallen vessels, the corvette was successfully boarded and captured by surviving members of the decimated Sons of the Preserving Blade irregular militia under the command of Shinsu 'Refum. 'Refum turned the ship over to his Fallen allies, who rewarded him by granting him the rank of Shipmaster and putting him in command of the captured vessel, which he immediately renamed Renewing Fire. Over the course of its service under 'Refum, the Fire would sustain severe damages during combat many times over, eventually earning nicknames such as "The Indestructible Fire" and "The Immortal Fire".
