Their leaders do not tolerate dissent and arrested Gastro, Gordon, Godfrey, Gideon, Gary, and Gus for becoming vegetarians and training as plumbers. The six birds escaped prison and hid on Atlantos. The bactrosaur Janice persuaded all of them (except for Gastro) to become carnivores again and hatched a plot to take over Atlantos for the carnivorous terror birds, but all of the evil birds were defeated by Teggs, Arx, Gipsy, Iggy, and Gastro.

Real terror birds (called Phorusrhachids or "rag thieves" by scientists) lived in North and South America during the Cenezoic Era, after the extinction of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. They couldn't fly, but could run up to speeds of 48 miles per hour, and were large enough to prey on small horses! Gastro and the other terror birds in the Astrosaurs series are probably Titanavis, which was about two to three metres tall. The giant bird Gastornis is sometimes called a "terror bird", but was not one of the phorusrachids, and was actually an herbivore. True terror birds were likely obligate carnivores - eating plants would make them sick.
