- According to Snopes.com, the urban legend investigation site, it is true that Dr. Seuss wrote this book in response to a challenge from his editor to write a book that used fewer than 50 different words. According to Wikipedia: The fifty words used are: a, am, and, anywhere, are, be, boat, box, car, could, dark, do, eat, eggs, fox, goat, good, green, ham, here, house, I, if, in, let, like, may, me, mouse, not, on, or, rain, Sam, say, see, so, thank, that, the, them, there, they, train, tree, try, will, with, would, you.
- Dr. Seuss does it again, putting a tiny collection of words to excellent if annoying use (especially if you have to read the same book to your kid eighty times in a row... or just enough to get it stuck in your head). Structurally, his sophisticated work is mainly based in monosyllabic iambic tetяameter, not unlike the lesser work of the Odyssey or the so-called ‘Great Bard.’ Many Shakespearean scholars have long since converted to the new, more renowned work of Theodor Geisel. The good Doctor also branches into the vast realm of trochaic meter during his novel. He embraces the core and fundamental themes of excellence in writing. While any of Dr. Geisel’s works could easily fulfill all the needs of any reader, his most widely appreciated endeavor is the one which I will devote my focus to. Green Eggs and Ham begins, like all great works of literature, with a pun. N
