The Umdhlebi is a cryptid that takes the form of a deadly tree, although accounts of the creature rarely have it actually killing humans - instead it was said to feed on various animals and was said to utilise extremely potent toxin that caused headache and bloodshot eyes, followed by delirium and then death in its victims: it was said the plant somehow had the intelligence to use this toxin to kill creatures nearby so that their decaying carcasses would nourish the soil nearby.

In early accounts (which have been generally discreditted by scientists) the Zulus were said to sacrifice animals to the Umdhlebi to calm what they saw as evil spirits - much like the supposed Madagascar Tree (which was revealed as a hoax).
