Robert Alexander (October 17, 1863 – August 20, 1941) was a soldier in the United States Army, originally from Baltimore, Maryland. As Major General he commanded the U.S. Army's 77th Infantry Division in France during World War I. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in northern Virginia. He joined the Army after rejecting a career in law, and became a Private in 1886 in the 4th Infantry. In 1887, he became the First Sergeant of his Company, and soon after received a promotion to second lieutenant in 1889.
