Een demper zorgde ervoor dat het geluid beperkt bleef bij het vuren. Deze kleine Blaster was dus uitermate geschikt om iemand snel uit de weg te ruimen. Zam Wesells mogelijkheid om van gedaante te veranderen zorgde er immers voor dat zij geruisloos haar prooi kon benaderen. Zam probeerde met deze Blaster Obi-Wan Kenobi te slim af te zijn in de Outlander Club maar de Jedi sneed Zams onderarm af zodat de Blaster nutteloos achterbleef.

Zam Wesell wielded a KYD-21 as her primary weapon, sometimes used in conjunction with a projectile rifle fellow bounty hunter Jango Fett insisted she use. The clone commando Darman wielded a KYD-21 during the Clone Wars, and Ghez Hokan was known to carry a custom version.
