- Season five of Family Matters which ran on ABC from September 24, 1993 to May 20, 1994.
- The show returned to Showtime for its fifth season in January 2012. Creator Tom Kapinos said that the show needed to take on a completely new direction to stay fresh.

- Season Five began on June 20, 2001. It contained fourteen episodes where the first half aired during the summer and the second half airing near winter. It finished on December 12, 2001. The season continues with the "4th Grade" opening from last season. It would be the last season to air the opening until it was replaced with a country-style opening with new animation in Season Six. The season features the premier of two new characters, Jimmy Valmer and Towelie. The season also features the "permanent" death of Kenny McCormick in "Kenny Dies" and the preparation of Butters Stotch becoming a major character in the finale episode, "Butters' Very Own Episode".
