Synopsis
| - At the construction site of a new bridge across Gotham Harbor, a horribly burned man rises from the site and begins attacking sailors across Gotham Harbor, in spite of Batman's best efforts to stop the creature. The series of bizarre murders also attracts the attention of Jason Blood , who told of the situation by his colleagues. After they leave, he struggles with wanting to come to terms with Glenda about his feelings. However, he's visited by Merlin who asks the Demon to go and see him at Tintagel the next day. When he overhears Harry Matthews being attacked by the burned man, Blood transforms into the Demon and comes to his friends aid.
In pursuit of the monster, the Demon is captured by Batman, and he, Matthews, and Randu are forced to reveal to Batman the Demon's double identity. Batman and the Demon then agree to work together to stop the monster. Going to police headquarters, there Randu is allowed to touch a composite sketch of the creature to see if his ESP can pick anything up. Randu learns that the creature was once a man named Jack Dobbs. Dobbs was aboard a sailing ship that was exploring near the island of Krakatoa in 1883 and was accused of murding the first mate. However, before he could be executed, Krakatoa exploded. Dobbs, horribly burned became something more than human and boarded the nearby Lady Clare where he would take out his revenge on the ships captain. Killing the entire crew, the ship would be found and pulled into Gotham Harbor. During this time, Dobbs would damage the ship, causing it to sink to the bottom of the harbor where he was trapped until today.
As Batman poses as a sailor to try and flush Dobbs out Blood and his colleagues would go to the Gotham Museum to try and learn what they can about Dobb's and what imprisoned him the first time. Batman is attacked by the creature, however back-up is prevented when Jame Gordon and the police are preoccupied with a robbery. The Demon learns that the rope that was intended to hang Dobbs is in the museum and takes it.
Batman is meanwhile brought aboard the Lady Clare by Dobbs, however the Demon arrives to give the caped crusader a hand. However, Merlin, having expected the Demon at Tintagel at that moment, believes his creation to be disobedient and strips his powers from afar. Trapped in his human form, the Demon proves no match for Dobbs. However, Merlin realizes the truth and restores the Demon's demonic powers. Batman and the Demon then work together to fight off Dobbs, in the end they manage to get the rope around Dobb's neck and his century old execution is complete and the creature dies.
With their mission at an end, Batman, the Demon, and Randu leave the Mary Claire which sinks to the bottom of Gotham harbor once more.
