Throughout his career, Peel expressed a liking for singers with what he described as "extreme voices". Hagen could surely be placed in this category, having a very personal and unusual style of singing. In the late 70s, Nina was, in fact, among the artists John was championing, when he was starting to be really interested in punk. However, the novelty factor may have been wore off soon, since he abandoned her music after the second and last LP by the Nina Hagen Band. He didn't seem to have featured at all her music from her subsequent solo credited albums. The two albums by the Nina Hagen Band ("Nina Hagen Band" and "Unbehagen") were found in his record collection.
