The 1985 Texas Bowl was the site of the 1984-85 NCAA Division I National Championship for college football, hosted by Dallas' Texas Bowl stadium (the last year the Texas Bowl would be hosted at the historic Texas Bowl; all subsequent years, the game would be hosted at Cowboys Stadium in nearby Arlington). The game pitted the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes against the No. 2 Nova Scotia Sea Lions. The selection of the Sea Lions to the national championship game was controversial, as they had been selected by a thin margin over the No. 3 and undefeated Mississippi Falcons, a team which featured 1984 Bosch winner, quarterback Rick Johansson. In what is widely regarded one of the biggest upsets of all time, the Sea Lions defeated the Buckeyes 23-16, holding off a Buckeye score to tie or win the game

The game was part of the "Big Three" upsets in the early-to-mid 1980's, following the "Upset of the Century" in which archrival Massachusetts defeated traditional power Texas the year before and succeeded by the Hog Heaven game in which Arkansas knocked out Michigan.
