Summerhall was a castle used as a summer residence, mostly during the reign of Daeron II Targaryen. It sits where Dorne, the Reach, and the Stormlands join. After Daeron II, Summerhall was passed to his son, Maekar I Targaryen. Summerhall was destroyed by a great fire in 259 AL, which resulted in the death of Aegon V, Prince Duncan and Lord Commander Ser Duncan the Tall. Aerys II believed that this fire contributed somehow to the birth of his son, Rhaegar, who grew up to be fascinated with it.

  • Summerhall is a ruined castle in the Stormlands, near the borders of both the Reach and Dorne. It was formerly the summer palace of House Targaryen and the third and newest of the strongholds of that house, after Dragonstone and the Red Keep of King's Landing. Summerhall was destroyed by fire approximately forty years before the events of the series begin. The fire killed both Aegon V Targaryen, his heir, and his lifelong friend Ser Duncan the Tall. It is rumored to have been caused by an attempt to hatch dragon eggs.
  • Summerhall is a rebuilt castle in the stormlands. Originally a lightly fortified castle used by House Targaryen as a summer castle and royal residence, it was destroyed in a great fire in 259 AC. Nearly one hundred years later in the 349 AC, Summerhall was reconstructed by Prince Baelor Targaryen, who was named its lord. While the heir apparent to the Iron Throne was known as the Prince of Dragonstone, a younger son could be titled the Prince of Summerhall. It is currently a permanent residence for House Targaryen of Summerhall.

Located in or near the foothills of the Red Mountains, the castle of Summerhall is close to the stormlands' border with the Reach, east of the Cockleswhent and southeast of the Blueburn. The Boneway runs south from Summerhall through the Dornish Marches to Yronwood in Dorne. It is currently a permanent residence for House Targaryen of Summerhall.
