  • Jupiter Station was a Starfleet Research and Development facility in orbit of Jupiter.
  • As part of the Ambassador class project, Starfleet had planned to build a set of operational spacecraft and then build six semi-complete vessels to keep as a reserve force, much as was done with the later Galaxy class. However, Starfleet decided to cancel this option in favour of increasing the reserve Galaxy force from two to six vessels instead. This decision came when the construction of the spare hulls had already been partially completed, so Starfleet was left with six Ambassador class primary hulls on its hands. Various options were contemplated, most centring around turning the hulls into operational vessels. One idea was for a Centaur-style conversion, adding nacelles but not engineering hulls. However, Starfleet was not willing to expend even the reduced resources needed for this
  • Jupiter Station was a Starfleet space station in orbit of Jupiter. Jupiter Station is probably best known for its holographic research facilities, made famous by the award winning Holo-programmer Lewis Zimmerman. The station has been in existence since at least the 2150s. (ENT: "Fortunate Son", "Silent Enemy", "Harbinger", "Anomaly") At some point before 2153, there was an attack on the station. Corporal Chang, one of the MACOs later assigned to Enterprise (NX-01), helped defend the station during this attack. (ENT novel: Last Full Measure)
  • In the 22nd century, it was the site of a military offensive involving the MACOs, including Hideaki Chang. (ENT novel: Last Full Measure) By 2155, it was the furthest colony that the United Earth government had established within the Sol system. (ENT novel: Beneath the Raptor's Wing) Sometime during the early 24th century saw Tuvok on leave with a temporary assignment to the station. (ST website: Startrek.com) It is unclear whether the 22nd century station existed into the 24th century, or whether a later replacement facility shared the same designation.

However, Starfleet was not willing to expend even the reduced resources needed for this option. In the end it was decided to link the hulls together in order to create a space station; Starfleet had been planning to build a new station in Jupiter orbit, so this option would allow it to fulfil that need without having to design and produce new hardware. The conversion went remarkably smoothly. Since the station was not considered a front line combat or defence station the weapons systems were removed, although the shields were retained. The hulls were stacked in groups of three, with each group linked together by bridging gangways. Various peripheral equipment was added to allow the station to fulfil its new roles. These included various scientific research projects, including a holographic research laboratory run by Dr. Lewis Zimmerman.

(VOY: "The Cloud", "Projections", "Life Line"; DS9: "Doctor Bashir, I Presume?") Het Jupiter station is ontworpen door Rick Sternbach.

(ENT novel: Last Full Measure) By 2155, it was the furthest colony that the United Earth government had established within the Sol system. (ENT novel: Beneath the Raptor's Wing) Sometime during the early 24th century saw Tuvok on leave with a temporary assignment to the station. (ST website: Startrek.com) Later by the 24th century, it was the location of Starfleet's Holographic Image and Programming Center, where Dr. Lewis Zimmerman did his work developing the Emergency Medical Hologram program. (VOY episode: "The Cloud", DS9 episode: "Doctor Bashir, I Presume") In 2372, the USS Samson was scheduled to arrive at Jupiter Station for debriefing following the testing on it's enhanced weapon and targeting systems during war games against the USS Enterprise-E. Unfortunately, the Samson was destroyed before leaving the Pantera Nebula. (TNG eBook: A Sea of Troubles) The station had a café whose manager resigned in 2373. While on Deep Space 9 in that year, Dr. Zimmerman asked Leeta if she would like to take the position. (DS9 episode: "Doctor Bashir, I Presume") In 2375, Zimmerman was able to convince Starfleet to enact Directive 731.9, which allowed for the removal of Vic Fontaine's holomatrix to Jupiter Station from Deep Space 9. (DS9 short story: "So a Horse Walks into a Bar...") During the Totality Crisis in 2381, a number of Starfleet vessels suffered from warp core breaches. The matter was kept under a veil of secrecy and led to the Enterprise-E being sent a message from Starfleet Command to drop out of warp at Kuiper 575 in order for both the Enterprise-E and the USS Titan to be escorted to Jupiter Station. At the time on Stardate 58562.5, multiple Starfleet ships suffered from catastrophic warp core failiures leading to the deaths of thousands - some due to the actual destruction whilst others were lost when the major research platforms suffered from the loss of their shields which led to Jupiter's deadly radiation killing them. (TOS novel: Captain's Glory) In 2410, Jupiter Station was one of several sites targeted by the Iconians during their invasion of the Sol System. The station sent out a distress signal, which was answered by the Gorn vessel IKS Varanus. (STO mission: "Midnight") It is unclear whether the 22nd century station existed into the 24th century, or whether a later replacement facility shared the same designation.

(ENT novel: Last Full Measure) As the station in the 24th century was made up of three Ambassador-class primary hulls stacked together, the 22nd and 24th-century stations may have been two different facilities with the same name, cf. Starbases 18 and 47. The station was destroyed by the Vendoth during the Battle of Sol in mid-2376. (Star Trek: Unity (crossover): "United We Stand - Together") The station's appearance in VOY: "Life Line" suggests that it was rebuilt soon after the battle.
