| - After making the appropriate hand signs, the user gathers water from an available source, compresses it, and shapes it into one or more shuriken. A talented Water Release user can create the water needed for this jutsu without a source. Despite the simplicity, it is an extremely powerful jutsu, and can difficult to control. When formed, the shuriken serves three functions. The functions can be accessed individually, in a combination of two, or all at once. The user can also combine this jutsu with the Shadow Shuriken Technique to make it even more dangerous.

First, a completed shuriken is extremely sharp, to the point where it can cut through stone and most metals, and other ninjutsu with relative ease. Users can also dull he shuriken at will as a non-lethal alternative. It's second use is that it can decompress itself almost instantly. The rapid decompression can create a burst of water that serves as either a concussive blast or powerful explosion. The shuriken's size, cutting power, and explosive power is determined by the amount of water the user compresses into the shuriken. The more water compressed into the shuriken, the greater the yield. With enough water, this jutsu can generate a yield great enough to rival a Tailed Beast Ball. Finally, a user can create a large shuriken to wield as a melee object. It can be sharpened and wielded as a blade or dull to serve as a blunt weapon However, there are several drawbacks. Because the water cannot stay compressed forever, each shuriken created has a time limit before it either dissipates or explodes. The more powerful the shuriken is, the shorter the time limit is. Another drawback is that the user must focus on keeping the water compressed until it is thrown. The amount of water put into it determines how difficult keeping the water compressed is. If not properly handled, the shuriken can explode prematurely, injuring the user. Talented users can override or even eliminate these flaws by training to maintain it indefinetely. The user can also combine this jutsu with the Shadow Shuriken Technique to make it even more dangerous.
