During the 2003–04 season he played in his only NHL game for the Chicago Blackhawks on March 7, 2004. He played for Cornell University from 1998 to 2002. The Calgary Flames chose him 170th overall in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. The Flames never signed him, but the Pee Dee Pride signed him as a free agent in 2002. Underhill played in the minor pros (except for that game with Chicago) and rarely played a full season anywhere. An exception was his last pro season (2005-06) when he played 50 games for the Alaska Aces. Underhill retired in 2006.
