Chata is a professor at Florida College for the Arts, but is also a Priestess in the Santeria religion. She is familiar with Martin "Marty" Castillo and works with him to interpret the symbols left by the person who killed two South Beach cops, letting everyone know the killings were for revenge against those who they consider criminals, not policemen. She works with Castillo to find out who was behind the killings, as they were not following the Santeria belief of non-violence and willing to defy his gods. Later Chata arranges a meeting with Castillo and Ramon Morandez, who tells Castillo about the reason for the killings.
