Meroë was once an ancient city on the eastern bank of the Nile River; it now remains the site of hundreds of pyramids. It is located in the Sudanese region called "Nubia". Meroë was visited in 1947 by Doctors Indiana Jones and Gennadi Volodnikov, along with a dispatch of Soviet soldiers, in search of the fourth and final missing piece of the Babylonian Infernal Machine. A Nubian boy, living nearby, greeted and aided Jones who reopened King Solomon's Mines which lay beneath the pyramids. At the mine site rested four pyramids which were each explored by Jones in order to find a way to open up the multi-locked entrance gate into the mines. A pack of hyenas also lived amongst the ruins.
