  • In the Golden Empire, a Royal Beneficiary Corporation was a company which received tax breaks from the Royal government in exchange for pledging to earn a set percent of its profits from sales to the Royal government. While taxes in the Empire were not heavy enough to discourage industry, they were nonetheless substantial for corporations, especially intersystem megacorps. To alleviate some of this burden (and spread their influence even further), corporations could compete for the RBC designation. Set percentages of a company's gross profit had to be earned from sales to the government. Though these sales were usually slightly below market rate for the goods or services provided, the tax break would increase in higher gross profit brackets; for example, a company which drew 25% of its total income from sales to the Empire would receive a greater tax break than one which drew only 15%. Easily the most famous Royal Beneficiary Corporation was the Vall`to Sector Bank, which backed the Royal Credit.
