Spring's End was established back in the pioneer days, built around the end of a freshwater stream where it slowly spread out and disappeared into the ground--hence the name. The city's preindustrial roots are still evident from its layout, with meandering streets and zoning problems that extend to this day. The centerpiece of all this is a huge park, containing miles of forest, a ruined amphitheater, a sports field, a cycling and jogging path, and a small lake with a single dock. It has a large community of changelings, with around one out of every 300 or so members of the town having known the 'hospitality' of the Gentry. Given that the city's population is around 32,000, this pegs the changeling population just over a hundred. The city is, in some senses of the word, controlled by chan

  • Spring's End was established back in the pioneer days, built around the end of a freshwater stream where it slowly spread out and disappeared into the ground--hence the name. The city is, in some senses of the word, controlled by changelings. The crime rate is quite a bit higher than its population and relatively rural nature would lead one to expect--most of this is fabricated, a tool of the Autumn court to keep mortals indoors and out of changeling affairs. Winter courtiers hold several elected positions and control the city paper, giving them a fairly good grip on information control. Many of the city's diversions are owned or staffed by Spring courtiers, and Summer--well, Summer is, as usual, too preoccupied with the threat of the Cousins to be concerned with mortal affairs. And more concretely, grab a map of Oregon. Halfway between Eugene and the coast: You Are Here.
