The Praetorian Guard (Praetoriani in Latin) was a force of bodyguards used by Roman Emperors. The title was already used during the Roman Republic for the guards of Roman generals since the rise to prominence of the Scipio family around 275 BC. The Guard was dissolved by Emperor Constantine I in the 4th century. They were distinct from the Imperial Germanic bodyguard which provided close personal protection for the early Roman emperors.

The Praetorian Guard are known for their incredible discipline, and will not break from the line under almost any conditions, displaying a fortitude that is near superhuman when compared to other Imperial Guard regiments.

Made up of soldiers selected by Emperor Roan Fel personally from the ranks of the Imperial Army, the Praetorians acted as a republican guard to the Empire's government. While the Imperial Military had the role of defending the Empire's sovereignty (and was tasked with defeating those loyal to Darth Krayt and his empire), the Praetorian Guard defended the Imperial monarchy of Fel, and the rest of the Imperial government. The Guard was formed during the Second Imperial Civil War, as Fel thought that he and the rest of his officials needed an elite guard for their personal protection, against Krayt's Sith assassins. The Praetorian Guard was formed as a result, and throughout the war, was commanded by a Zabrak officer.
- Praetorian guards are the elite personal bodyguards of the main leaders of Caesar's Legion, Caesar and Legate Lanius in 2281. Praetorians focus exclusively on unarmed combat in battle, and can see through disguises. The leader of the Praetorian Guard is Lucius, the third most powerful man in Caesar's Legion.
