Christine "Christie" Todd Whitman (born September 26, 1946) is a retired American politician who served as the 41st President of the United States from 2009 until 2013 and the __th Vice President of the United States from 2001 until 2009 under President Dan Quayle and was the first woman elected to both positions. A Democrat, she was also the Governor of New Jersey from 1994 until she resigned in early January of 2001 to assume the Vice Presidency. Whitman was an unsuccessful candidate for the United States Senate in 1990 and was defeated for reelection in the 2012 United States Presidential election by Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York. Whitman is regarded as a political moderate.
