Synopsis
| - At the Nightwing complex, Guy Gardner is sill digesting the news that he must help the former agents of Nightwing to take down Superman. Agent Jennifer explains the Nightwing agents will need metahuman support to defeat someone like the Superman, and they needed Guy's help to work out which ones they could rely on. She wants to know about Flash.
Guy is skeptical: the Flash has lived her entire life in the public eye, and has few secrets. Conceived by two astronauts on the first mission to Jupiter, some special factor resulted in her gaining power over light. After she began publicly using her power, her mother, Celeste Nelson, became a superhero and a stage mother. Her father meanwhile was an inept Nightwing operative.
Lia's body is composed of light, allowing her incredible powers: she can fly, use light as a weapon, change her shape, and create hard-light duplicates of herself. She never decided whether she wanted to be a hero or a fashion model, so it was surprising that she joined the Secret Six. However, the Secret Six's last action was to be roundly defeated by the Superman is Washington DC. After that, Lia Nelson dropped off the radar, though recently Guy has heard rumors about her using her travelling to another universe. He doesn't believe it himself.
Agent Jennifer thanks him, and says that she will continue to use his services in the coming mission. When Guy protests, she asks him "when's the last time you had a chance to save the world?"
- On Tangent Earth, Batman is leading a raid of the Tangent heroes on Superman's fortress. Manhunter is struck by how cold he is, but then shocks him with the news that she used to be the Joker. Their conversation is interrupted by the other heroes moving into position: Tangent Batman distracting the automated defenses, Tangent Spectre beating up the guards, and the Tangent Green Lantern taking on the people on the manned gun emplacements. Making it to the middle of the complex, Batman is prepared to fight the actual guards... but Tangent Batman has already killed most of them, Batman gives him a brief lecture before they return to their original task - finding the captured heroes.
On a docks somewhere, the Superman, Powergirl and a magician named Orion arrive to meet the common people. The dockworkers are shocked, but Superman is determined to look around. His walk takes him through the city, where a conversation with a homeless mother leads him to spend $40,000 of his own money on helping her. He is adamant that there is much work for him to do.
At the Fortress, Batman and his heroes have found nothing. They have defeated the human guards and explored a third of the complex, but have not found their friends or the Superman. At the castle, Sir William and Hex cannot find him either. Their conversation with the other heroes is interrupted when the base's robotic defenses are activated. However, despite their opponents, Manhunter is amazed - Batman has got them in, kept them coordinated, and then saves them with a set of high-explosive batarangs. They make their way to a door too big to get through, but they planned for this too - thanks to Sir William's magic, Plastic Man is up and active again, breaking through the door easily. On the other side of the door, they found their friends, but Superman has vanished. Sir William comments that Superman seems to have dropped off the face of the Earth, and is struck with a horrible thought.
Thanks to his altruism, the Superman has a crowd around him, begging for cars and news of missing loved ones. He introduces himself to the crowd as "Superman", but they are skeptical - one member of the crowd points behind him, to where Superman and Power Girl have arrived.
