He was overall supportive of the nation's numerous ethnic groups, but he was controversial for his thoughts on Jewish people. After his political efforts, Hitler lived in Austria, working as an aspiring artist, a passion which was hindered in his youth. His works are still hung in many museums and political buildings across the country. Hitler retired in 1950 in a small village outside of Vienna, where he passed away in 1960.
