Based on the Isle Of Wight and founded in 1993, the young company (the oldest members were in their early 30s) had nine members whose experience varied wildly, leading to a similarly experimental nature in Carmageddon's development. Stainless Software became part of VIS entertainment group in 1999, and in 2001 Stainless Games was spun-off from VIS. Development of Carmageddon: TDR 2000 was contracted out to Torus Games. Stainless Games mainly develop downloadable games for Microsoft Windows and the Xbox 360's Xbox Live Arcade.
