Ugaritic was a semitic language spoken in the town of Ugarit, located on the coast of modern Syria. Cuneiform texts written in Ugaritic dating from approximately 1200-1000 BCE. were discovered by French archaeologists in the early twentieth century. Texts in the Ugaritic language include the legends of Baal, Aqhat (which is believed to refer to a character later known in the Bible as Daniel), and Kirta.
