Motorways are large, grade separated roads, complete with hard shoulders and central reservations. Motorways are differentiated from 'A' road dual carriageways mainly by the provision of hard shoulders and restrictions which prohibit slow moving traffic and pedestrians. All Motorways are designated with blue backed signs and 'M' prefixes.
