Jim Mayer (born October 30, 1954 in Capreol, Ontario) was a professional ice hockey right winger who played four games in the National Hockey League and 74 in the World Hockey Association. He played with the New England Whalers, Calgary Cowboys, Edmonton Oilers, and New York Rangers. When the WHA folded in 1979 Mayer was reclaimed by the Rangers and played in his only four NHL games in 1979-80, scoring no points. After two more years in the minors he retired in 1982. In the WHA Mayer scored 13 goals and 12 assists in 74 games.

  • Jim Mayer (born October 30, 1954 in Capreol, Ontario) was a professional ice hockey right winger who played four games in the National Hockey League and 74 in the World Hockey Association. He played with the New England Whalers, Calgary Cowboys, Edmonton Oilers, and New York Rangers. He played college hockey with the Michigan Tech Huskies from 1972 to 1976 and was chosen 239th overall by the New York Rangers in the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft. Mayer turned pro with the Calgary Cowboys of the World Hockey Association (WHA) in 1976-77 and then joined the Edmonton Oilers in 1977-78 when the Cowboys folded. He was claimed on waivers by the New England Whalers in 1978-79. He was sent down to the Dallas Black Hawks of the Central Hockey League that season where he set a league record with six goals in one game. When the WHA folded in 1979 Mayer was reclaimed by the Rangers and played in his only four NHL games in 1979-80, scoring no points. After two more years in the minors he retired in 1982. In the WHA Mayer scored 13 goals and 12 assists in 74 games.
