- [Source] Yavin est une planète gazeuse qui n'est pas d'une grande importance géographique, elle se situe dans l'Étendue Gordienne de la Bordure Extérieure. Sa quatrième lune Yavin 4 est quant à elle habitable. Les temples Sith qui s'y trouvent furent construits par les Massassis, race disparue lorsque les rebelles y installèrent leur base secrète. Il s'y est déroulé une bataille très importante. C'est à ce moment que Luke Skywalker a fait explosé la Première Étoile de la Mort de l'Empire Galactique en envoyant une torpille à proton dans son conduit d'aération.

Debido a las altas presiones que ejerce su densa atmosfera, su núcleo esta compuesto por sustancias metálicas, carbono e hidrógeno metálico (un tipo de hidrógeno que puede conducir la corriente electrica y crear un campo magnético muy potente), la masa de este coloso es tal que la fuerza de gravedad que ejerce puede transformar los materiales de su interior en preciosas joyas conocidas como gemas corusca, las cuales son el material más duro conocido en toda la Galaxia, de hecho se dice que estas joyas pueden cortar acero mandaloriano como un láser corta jalea sullustana.

Yavin was best known for its moon, Yavin 4, which was the location of the Yavin IV: Temple Alliance's base prior its discovery and near destruction in the Battle of Yavin. Of its overall total of 26, Yavin had two other moons that were habitable; Yavin 8 and Yavin 13.

Dødsstjernens superlaser hadde ingen effekt på en gassgigant, og måtte flyte rund planeten. Dette ga Alliansen tid til å gjøre motstand.
