The long civil war cumulated in the Sundering, where the dire magical energies unleashed by Malekith and his sorcerers shattered the land. Most of the coastal regions of Nagarythe and Tiranoc plunged into the sea, leaving only thin stretches of land and the Sunken Isles remaining above water.
