The United States Gubernatorial elections of 1800 was the nations second. During it, Massachusetts Senator John Adams was elected governor over Virgina governor and Secretary of Foreign Affairs Thomas Jefferson. Adams would serve as Governor longer than any other person before of since -- 26 years. He and Jefferson would die on the same day, the Fourth of July of 1826.
